10/27/21 The last practice of the season for the Aquajet Flex swimmers will be Thursday, Nov. 4. This is the last practice before the Jenna Krivohlavek Memorial swim meet.
10/26/21 A new feature we are going to try to provide is an “Attendance Report” for each meet. This report will be on the norfolkaquajets.com website, under the “Upcoming Swim Meets” – “Scheduled Swim Meets” tabs. Look for the meet, and a day or two prior to the meet registration deadline, you can click on the “Attendance Report” to verify that your swimmer is or is not registered for that particular meet.
Another way to verify that your child is registered is thru your Swim Portal
This report can be useful to verify that your swimmer is registered. Also, if there is an away meet, it will let you know how many other swimmers are attending. Maybe you need to ask another parent for help in transportation for your child to a swim meet. Most everyone is willing to help if needed.
Regarding swim meet registration, when registering, the only required aspect of the process is to indicate that your child is attending or is not attending. If you do not feel comfortable selecting your child’s events, that is perfectly fine, the coaches will ensure that this is completed. The coaches encourage young or new swimmers to allow the coaches to select their child’s events as they see what strokes your child is becoming proficient at. Swim meets are competitive, and we all want to see our children do well, but your child will become a better all-round swimmer by allowing them to swim events that they may not be the most comfortable in.
Also, a reminder, if it does not indicate that it is a Y or YMCA meet, there will be fees associated with registering your child for the meet. These typically range in the $25-35 range for each meet. If your child is registered for a meet, and the registration deadline has passed, you will be responsible for the fees for the meet, regardless of your child physically attending the meet or not. This is out of the club’s control.
10/25/21 We are almost a couple of weeks into the swimming season, and we need to take a moment to ask everyone to speak to their children about the behavior that is expected, and that which is not permitted as an Aquajet.
Aquajet Mission Statement:
Along with the YMCA core values of respect, caring, honesty and responsibility, in a safe and encouraging enviroment, we the Aquajets are committed to inspire and enable our members to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life.
Holding true to this statement, we must from time to time remind and talk to our kids about what is expected and what will and will not be tolerated. Our kids are representing the Aquajets whether they are out in front of the YMCA, in one of the locker rooms, in the pool, or at an away meet, and their actions are constantly being watched. Please talk to your child about being respectful to one another and the YMCA property. This includes behavior in the pool and in the locker rooms. Specifically, cell phone use in the locker rooms, not hanging on curtains, using appropriate language, and being respectful to YMCA patrons who also use the facility.
We encourage you to review the Aquajets Locker Room Policy, which can be found on the team website:
Also, encourage your child to talk to you, a coach, or a teammate if there is something that is occurring, either in the pool or the locker rooms that make them uncomfortable, or that they feel is inappropriate. And please, speak to one of the coaches, a board member, or the Safe Sport Coordinator to discuss any concerns you might have. There is no concern too small.
As a club, we are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable swimming environment for all members.
Please view the team website (norfolkaquajets.com) for more information on team policies and USA Swimming Safe Sport policies.
10/22/21 Be sure to check your Swim Portal and the team website (norfolkaquajets.com) for updated swim meets that are available for sign-up.

There are many more meets available in surrounding cities. Please visit mwswim.org to view our Midwestern LSC website and to find a list of meets in our state.
A reminder to parents regarding YMCA vs. USA Swimming meets. If the meet title has YMCA in it, typically there is no charge for the swimmers. All other meets are USA Swimming meets and will have fees associated with them. The form of payment that you used during registration will be used to pay for any meet fees that your child accrues. We typically are able to charge these meet fees the week prior or week following the meet.
Another reminder, at the end of the Short Course (25 yard pool) season in March, there will be two championship level meets that will be held: 1. YMCA Championship – in order to be eligible to swim in this meet, your child MUST have participated in 3 YMCA swim meets in the season. Norfolk alone hosts two of these meets (Oct. & Jan). This means in order to swim at the YMCA Championships, you must have swam in at least one other YMCA meet. 2. MW Short Course Championships: in order to be eligible to swim in this meet, your child must have achieved minimum qualifying times in each event they would like to swim. As the meet approaches, these times will be posted. The coaches will make you aware if your child has a qualifying time for this meet. 2022 MW Short Course Qualifying Times
Regarding swim suits, we are hoping very soon. We are waiting for one of the vendors to give us verification that their inventory level can support a team sized order. We don’t want our swimmers to each have different style team suits b/c inventory ran out.
10/5/21 This Saturday we will be hosting our first swim meet of the year. Here is some info regarding the meet. -Meet starts at 10am -Aquajet swimmers will warmup from 815-845am. Please be at the pool by 8am to start promptly at 815am. -Spectators are welcome in the pool area -There will be a gym reserved for overflow seating (bring a blanket or bag chair) -There will be a concession stand (please sign-up on the food donation list) -There will be a merchandise table (Aquajet apparel, swim apparel, goggles, Aquajet swim caps) -The meet will be live streamed. We will send out more info on how to access the meet. -Your swimmer’s events can be found in the Swim Portal, and heat sheets will be available the morning of the meet.
Additional info for the meet -Since we do not have team suits at this point, swimmers can either wear a past season’s team suit, or any1-piece suit they have available (a black suit would work well). Swimmers should also wear their Aquajet team cap -Swimmers should stay on the deck with their teammates, not in the bleachers with parents or family. Please be respectful to other spectators as it can get crowded and everyone would like the opportunity to watch their children swim.
-Absolutely no photography is allowed behind the blocks at any point during the meet. This includes behind the glass partition.
-At the start of each race, it should be quiet and no flash photography allowed. The swimmers starts are triggered by both a horn and a flash. A camera flash can create false starts and disqualifications. -Swimmers should bring multiple swim towels, in addition to light, healthy snacks. It is wise to have an extra pair of goggles in your swimmer’s bag, as goggles always seem to break at the most inopportune times. -Encourage good sportsmanship with your swimmer. Swimming is a team sport, swimmers should be on the deck and encourage their teammates between events. -As a parent, remember that this is the first meet of the year, and it’s early in the season. You will be amazed at where the swimmers are a month from now.
10/5/21 Registration is now open for volunteers for this Saturday’s Aquajet YMCA Swim Meet. Each family of a swimmer who is registered for the meet is required to assist in volunteering for the meet. To any new families with a swimmer, please don’t hesitate to volunteer as it is an excellent way to meet other parents of the club, and learn more about how the club works. And rest assured, we won’t put you in a position that you won’t be capable of doing. Please use the link below to access signup. VOLUNTEER SIGNUP — -Meet starts at 10am and should be completed by approximately 3pm. —Volunteers should be at the meet at the following times: Timers: Be there by 940, Timers meeting at the scorer’s table at 945am Concession stand: Arrive by 9am Merchandise table: Arrive by 9am All other workers, please be there by 9am

8/25/21 Sorry for the confusion, but the registration links on the website are now working, they were not earlier this morning. Here is the link if you choose to copy and paste: https://cui.active.com/sports-reg/login?a=d317678c-9f21-4ec7-95eb-eafd4cb98ae8 (Thank you to those who let me know the links weren’t working, and if you come across any others within the Aquajets website, please let me know and I will get it fixed asap – website construction/maintenance is NOT my forte!!) IMPORTANT: If anyone you know contacts you about joining the Aquajets, who has not been an Aquajet in the past, please have them call/text/email Kent to talk about joining. Do not have them directly show up to practice, as our coaches will be overwhelmed with new swimmers and parents, and be unable to coach the returning swimmers initially. Any interested swimmer will be given a brief trial period (usually 4 practices to see if they like it, along with an evaluation by Coach Amber). However, we need to schedule these so as to space them out. Again, have any new swimming parent contact Kent if interested: email@example.com or 402-316-9760 IMPORTANT: Also, regarding the USA Swimming Safe Sport course for parents. The links are working within our website, however, after doing a test run, the the parent course within the USA Swimming website is not operating. If you reach it, please try back again or wait until I send out another email with notification that the USA Swimming site is operational.

Please email Kent Olberding (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let him know how many swimmers you will have total. The discount only applies to swimmers in the Premium and High School Swim Team memberships. Some other items to note for the registration and upcoming season: - This year, we will utilize the norfolkaquajets.com website more, as it allows parents a 1-stop shop for all information. We will continue to send emails, and texts, but each email sent out will be archived in the News/Announcements tab, allowing parents an easier avenue to retrieve any past information that is communicated. Please take the time to become familiar with the website as a lot of updates and information has been added. **********************NEW TO REGISTRATION ****************IMPORTANT*********************** This year, the Norfolk Aquajets are in the process of becoming Safe Sport recognized by USA Swimming. Safe Sport is an initiative of education and policies aimed at providing a fun, healthy, and safe atmosphere for all members. In order to make this happen for the Aquajets, it is mandatory for at least 1 parent of each household of swimmers to view a short educational video made by USA Swimming. The links for instructions and the videos are posted in the norfolkaquajets.com website under Safe Sport and the Registration tabs. This is MANDATORY. If a parent has not completed the course within 30 days of registering your child or children for the Aquajets, your child or children will not be able to participate in any Aquajet function (practice or meets) until the course is completed. We believe that USA Swimming will soon make it a requirement for all swim clubs to be in compliance with Safe Sport guidelines, so it is important for us to get this accomplished. Directions to complete this are on the Aquajet website. -Swim practice will begin Tuesday, Sept. 7 for all returning Aquajets. New swimmers to the club should first contact Kent prior to arriving to practice. Practice for Sept- mid Nov will be from 4-5/530/6pm, Mon-Thurs at the YMCA. The coaches will designate with practice group your child is in after the first few practices. – upcoming swim meets have been posted on the website. We will let you know which meets there will likely be an Aquajet coach present. – we will be sending out more information regarding swim suits for the upcoming season in the very near future Please contact Kent Olberding with any questions regarding registration.
